NYCFC scored a hat trick by creating a breakthrough mobile app for their fans, their sponsors, and their team.

The Challenge

NYCFC, the newest franchise to Major League Soccer, would play their first home game at Yankee Stadium in six short weeks. To set themselves apart from other teams and score big with fans and sponsors, NYCFC wanted to create a mobile experience unlike any other in the league. Their app needed to deliver live scores, stats, standings, photos, videos, news, and much more to the palm of fans’ hands, all in time for game day.

The Solution

While NYCFC hustled on the field preparing for their inaugural game, WillowTree and NYCFC’s digital team were hustling on the sidelines, designing and developing an app unlike any other in Major League Soccer. In just six short weeks, the official New York City FC app for iOS and Android launched, as more than 43,000 fans filled Yankee Stadium to watch NYCFC take the field at home for the first time.

Hand crafted with fans first in mind, our UX Designers strategically incorporated the team’s characteristically NYC-inspired branding throughout the app’s design. Simple navigation and a clean UI allow fans to  check stats, scores, standings, social media, videos, and more quickly, without missing a play on the field.

iOS and Android developers integrated MLS’s API into the app, so fans always have access to the most updated match information, inside or outside of Yankee Stadium. We also integrated Google AdMob into NYCFC’s app, providing their franchise sponsors valuable advertising opportunities, and their team an additional revenue stream for maximum ROI.
