Zions Direct, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, needed to deliver an innovative way for its audience of sophisticated financial traders and industry influencers to conduct business in any way they wanted – including over the television.
Recognizing a preference on the part of its investment-savvy audience to perform trade and other financial transactions over their TVs, Zions knew it would need a native app in Roku, a platform made by a company of the same name that allows customers to stream internet video and audio through their televisions.
Zions turned to WillowTree Apps, whose developers jumped in head first to understand this sophisticated programming platform. WillowTree produced a custom application with much of the same look and feel as Zion’s traditional website and mobile apps and did a deep dive into the BrightScript programming language necessary to write custom code.
Using the TV’s remote, users can view stock and bond prices and “toggle” between screens, view securities, make bids and exercise options, all from the comfort of the sofa (or the TV in the office as the case may be) if they prefer.
